Spring is the Air

Spring is almost here!! This weekend sure felt great, and got us thinking about our yard. Being new home owners, this beautiful weather gave us the opportunity to preform our first bit of  yard work. Which TJ was has been excited about, me on the other hand not so much. Since we haven't ever had a yard, we didn't own any yard tools. So we visited Lowes on Saturday to pick up a few man toys. While he was putting much deliberation in what tools to purchase, I made my way to the gardening section to pick out some flowers. Now by no means do I have a green thumb, some may even call it a black thumb (see Exibit A), but I wanted flowers in our flower beds.

My Dead Plants

I found some really pretty Begonias. Not only were they pretty, but they were pretty cheap, so I didn't mind trying them since they will most likely be dead in a week or so.

All planted

My theory is that I just can't keep potted plants alive, and maybe I will have better luck with the flowers in the ground. I don't know much about keeping up a yard, thankfully my hubby knows a little. If you know of any Southern hardy flowers/ plants or advice on keeping flowers alive please let me know :)

  1. I always plant petunias because they are very hard to kill :) I plant them in hanging baskets-they will grow and hang over. Something else that is easy to grow and loves the heat is lantana. It comes in different colors and butterflies love it! I have mine in a pot but if you plant it in the ground it will grow really big. Impatiens are also almost impossible to kill-they come in a bunch of colors. We tried planting a flowerbed at our last house and I just couldn't keep anything alive in those things. I also hated pulling the weeds out. So now I just do potted plants/hanging baskets.

    Hope that helps!
