I've got a little story for you Ags...

So if you follow college football you know that Texas A&M football has been pretty bad for quite awhile. You might even know if you don't follow college football. When we found out The Aggies made it into the Independence Bowl, (Whoop!) we decided to go with a couple of TJ's co-workers.  We weren't able to go to a game all year. We were very optimistic heading to Shreveport. However it quickly went down hill from there.

We were told to park at the mall and take a shuttle over to the stadium since all the parking was sold out and the stadium was in a shady area. We got to the mall with 2 hours to spare before the game started. The line for the shuttle was the longest I've ever seen. They were much longer than Six Flags, and Black Friday lines.

(its hard to make out but the line goes through the cars)

Waiting in the longest line ever

Easily 1,000 people waiting. After waiting an hour and we hadn't gotten half way through the line. TJ's co-worker Mark got on the phone calling every taxi company he could find. Finally one could send a cab over in about 30 minutes. Our cabbie Bruce was determined to get us to the game before it started. We weaved in and out of traffic through some pretty bad parts of town. He got us there in record time. We ended up getting dropped off at the gate for a fraction of the price of the shuttle thanks to Bruce!!
We walked into the stadium as soon as the Fightin' Texas Aggies kicked off. We had pretty decent seats considering you couldn't pick where your tickets were.

Welcome to Shreveport

(We ran into my friends bro at the game)

Once the sun went down it got down into the lower 40's. I was prepared with everything I could think of and stayed pretty warm for the most part from these little guys.

As for the game...we did alright if you don't count our special teams who gave up 24 points. UGA beat us 44-20.

The whole way through the game we discussed how in the world we were going to get back to the mall with 50,000 people trying to do the same thing. Leaving early wasn't an option since we aren't 2 percenters and about half of the crowd had left by 4th quarter. Once the game was over, we took a look at the lines to go back to the mall. It was so long we couldn't find the end. The plan then was to walk a couple of blocks to Whataburger and call our cab guy Bruce. I guess everyone else had a similar ideas. No cabs available anywhere. We tried to flag a couple down while we were walking but weren't succussful. Keep in mind we were walking in 40 degree weather in a not so great part of town. So we decide to try a limo company. For 100 bucks he would take us to the mall 2 miles down the road. We decided we had no other real option unless we wanted to wait in the line that never ended. So the limo guy told us to walk down to an intersection by the highway and he would try to get there.

Waiting for our ride

The police had so many roads blocked to help the flow of traffic (which I'm not too sure it did). Our limo guy couldn't get anywhere close to the stadium. It just so happened another limo came down the on ramp where we were waiting. Shannon flagged the guy down and he had just dropped off his customers and agreed to take us to the mall. So Johnny with his gold teeth and white "used" (beer cans everywhere) limo was our life saver. We finally made it back to the mall 1.5 hours after the game, which we considered pretty good.

Thanks Shannon for flagging the guy down

Moral of the story...if your team gets into the Independece Bowl, stay home and watch it on tv!!

  2. I had a great seat and a great view, plenty of refreshments close at hand, and NO traffic. I just love my recliner and new TV!
