Who knew Roger Creager was so prophetic?!
"Its been a real peach of a day today. The van (truck) had a blow out on the way. By eleven a.m. it was already looking bad."
TJ, Dixie and I left Friday morning and headed towards Galveston, but had an unexpected delay when TJ's tire blew out. After changing the tire and a short stop in Ennis we were back on the road. We met up with Lauren and Freeman in Huntsville and had lunch and finally pulled into Galveston around 3:30.
The devastation from hurricane Ike is still very visible. There are still boats on their sides in fields, posts from where houses used to be and lots of businesses closed. Luckily, our hotel had been restored since the hurricane. After checking in to the hotel, we went to Moody Gardens so the boys could pick up their packets and familiarize themselves with the area.
After dinner we decided to drive to the beach for a walk with Dixie. She had never seen the ocean before and wasn't quite sure what to make of it. She quickly acclimated to the ebb and flow of the tide. She seemed to enjoy chasing the water back off shore.

On Saturday we woke at 5:30 a.m., had a quick breakfast, and off again to Moody Gardens. The boys set up their transition areas and waited for their wave to be called to the starting line. The water that morning was only 65 degrees, and it was a good thing they had wet suits. They competed in the sprint triathlon, which was a .3 mile swim, 12.5 mile bike, and 5K run.

Who knew spectating was such a workout? Lauren and I had a little trouble weaving ourselves around the course in order to see the boys in each event. We had a great time cheering them on.
Afterwards, we met up with Addie and Madison for some much needed nourishment at Tortuga Mexican Restaurant. Addie and Brett were kind enough to let us crash at their place so we didn't have to make the drive back to Fort Worth. Later that night, Brett took us all to a new wine bar called Three Oaks, which was really fun.
TJ and Freeman already have their next triathlon planned. Lauren and I are so proud of our boys!!!

TJ finished 20th out of 189 first time triathletes with a time of 1 hour, 26 mins, and 15 secs.

Well, I'm impressed with TJ! 20th is great!! Glad you've joined the blogging world!! I've already added you to my "blog friends"! Sorry I hadn't called ya, but the blog looks AWESOME!
